An Enriching Academic Journey at Multimedia University (MMU), Malaysia

The second year of our academic journey at Firebird Institute of Research in Management began on 9th September 2024, marking the start of an exciting and transformative experience. The 4th semester introduced us to specialized domain classes, alongside the crucial Malaysia immigration process—setting the stage for our international academic venture.

Pre-Departure Process: Visa and Documentation

The initial step involved the passport process, which commenced on 13th September. While some students already had their passports, others had to apply anew, completing the procedure within a week. By October, the focus shifted to the student visa application and documentation for the student pass, a process that consumed the first half of the month.

On 15th October, the visa progress varied among students—some reached 75% completion, while others were at 35%, 15%, or even lower in the immigration process. Amidst this, we received the evaluation documents via email. Balancing academics with immigration formalities, we also participated in senior graduations and junior freshers’ day, enriching our campus experience.

By 24th October, we received guidance on the e-visa application, made the necessary payments, and obtained the receipt. After a period of anxious waiting, the e-visa approval finally arrived on 1st November. Before departure, our Director and faculty members addressed our queries, conducted an MMU process briefing, and facilitated undertaking signings and itinerary sharing. We also completed the MMU ID card process and applied for the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC).

Arrival in Malaysia: Exploring MMU Campuses

The first batch departed on 14th November 2024, arriving in Malaysia on 15th November, while the second batch left a day later, facing a slight flight delay. Upon arrival, we settled into the Cyberjaya campus, where the Wi-Fi registration was promptly completed for both batches.

Our exploration began with a campus tour, followed by a thrilling trip to Genting Highlands on 17th November, where we enjoyed the scenic beauty and entertainment. The medical check-up was conducted for both batches, after which we visited the Murugan Temple at Batu Caves and the vibrant Central Market, immersing ourselves in Malaysia’s rich culture.

Academic and Cultural Immersion

On 20th November, we traveled to the MMU Malacca campus, staying at the Rosmerah Hotel. The academic sessions commenced with Innovation and Technology classes, featuring interactive presentations. The following day, we visited Jonker Street, gaining deep cultural insights into Malacca’s heritage.

The weekend was spent exploring—some ventured to Pulau Besar Island, while others relaxed at the hotel. The next week began with a meeting with MMU’s President, followed by a visit to Putrajaya, where we studied its architectural marvels. We also engaged in MMU portal training, project report discussions, and a group presentation on Innovation and Technology, delving into sector-specific concepts.

Advanced Learning and Industry Exposure

Subsequent classes covered Data Analysis using SPSS, Strategic Management, and System Dynamics, enhancing our analytical and decision-making skills. A highlight was attending the convocation ceremony at Cyberjaya, witnessing the King and Queen’s procession, and visiting the iconic Petronas Twin Towers.

On 10th December, we explored the Royal Selangor Museum and Bank Negara Malaysia, learning about storytelling in marketing heritage products, luxury brand management, and financial inclusivity policies. Further SPSS workshops deepened our understanding of marketing analytics and employee engagement metrics.

Farewell and Return

As our journey neared its end, we dedicated time to project submissions and celebrated the closing ceremony on 13th December. A final online meeting on 14th December facilitated assignment discussions and faculty mentorship selections.

With hearts full of memories, we bid farewell to MMU Malaysia, returning to India in batches—enriched with global knowledge, cultural exposure, and lifelong connections.
